Centre for German Studies
The Centre for German Studies offers a Five-year integrated M.A. Programme in German Studies. The Programme focuses on intensive language learning in the first year. Students are trained in the skills of writing, reading, speaking and comprehension according to updated pedagogy in Foreign Language Teaching. In the succeeding years, language teaching is combined with the study of literature, cultural and political history of German speaking countries, translation, linguistics and other subjects. The Courses are designed to familiarize students with the culture and society of Germany. Several optional courses are available that will lead students further to interdisciplinary research areas like Translation Studies, Culture Studies, and Literary Theory. The Centre emphasizes student-centered interactive learning that allows students enough space for their personal development.
After successful completion of three years the students are eligible for B.A. (Hon's) degree in German. In final two years, the programme offers a range of fields like genres of literature, literary movements, periods in literary history, translation & interpretation, linguistics, didactics of German Language, the cultural and political history. Over final two semesters of the M.A. students are required to write a dissertation on an area of their choice.
