Brief Profile:

  • A senior academician in the field of Library and Information Science in India, Prof. Koganuramath has M.Sc. in Information Management from Shefield University, U.K. He has more than three decades of professional experience in the field of Library Science. His doctoral work is on information seeking behaviour of users. Among his research areas are Information Management, Digital Library, Information Use and User Studies and Knowledge Management.
  • He is an accomplished person in the library and information science fraternity in India. He has excellent academic credentials. He did his post-graduation in Library and information Science and stood first to the department and was bestowed with a Gold medal. He went to Sheffield University, United Kingdom for pursuing MSc in Information Management and completed it with a first class. He has done extensive work in information seeking behaviour of users, on which he has also been awarded a PhD.
  • He brings with him more than three decades of rich professional experience.
  • He was with Tata Institute of Social Sciences from 1996 to 2013 as Professor (2007) and University Librarian (1996). He was instrumental in establishing digitization activities and establishing of National Centre for Information on Social Sciences. He has established a full-fledged teaching department in TISS by starting “Centre for Library and Information Management Studies” of which he is the Chairperson. This centre has launched PG Diploma in Digital Library and Information Management (2008), Master of Library and Information Science (2011) and PhD Programmes (2011). He is Research Guide for 3 students at present at TISS. He is also Research Guide, PhD evaluator and Board of examinations & studies in six universities i.e. Pune University, Karnatak University, Punjabi University, Patiala, Kurukshetra University, YCMOU and Bundelkhand University, Jhansi etc.
  • He served as Librarian for more than 16 years at National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Karnataka State and was instrumental in complete automation of library and information services there.
  • He has also served in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi as University Librarian between 2005-07 and initiated several projects which resulted into improvement of information services, augmenting the vast array of e-resources to the faculty and students at JNU.
  • He is very active professionally and has served as the President of Indian Library Association (ILA) for the term 2004-07. He is also the chairperson of Bombay Science Librarians Association (BOSLA) since 2004. He is widely travelled and has interacted with libraries across the world like Britain, Australia, France and Netherlands, etc. He was Governing Board Member of INFLIBNET+UGC (2006-08). Member of UGC Curriculum Development Committee and also Research Council of 5 universities.
  • He is recognized as an eminent teacher and librarian who has contributed to LIS fraternity through his capacity building initiatives. International and National workshops, seminars/conferences and UGC refresher courses have been organized under his leadership. He has successfully completed several key projects from IFLA, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, UGC, etc.
  • He is a prolific writer and has several books, research articles in national and international journals to his credit.
