About the School

The School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) is a unique centre for learning that fosters innovative scientific ideas through an interdisciplinary approach and interactive teaching and research in frontal areas of the chemical sciences. The School pursues research in applied and green chemistry, nano-chemistry, polymer chemistry, petroleum products, supramolecules and macromolecules, kinetics and catalysis, physical organic chemistry, synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry, nanochemistry, and bioorganic chemistry.

The students at the School undergo several levels of learning with more extensive and more in-depth exposure to virtually every aspect of chemical sciences: theoretical, applied, instrumental, computational, experimental, and physicochemical understanding. The syllabus of M.Sc. chemical sciences is designed in such a way that it helps students understand and enhance their knowledge about the subject for qualifying any of the national level entrance examinations and deepen their creative outlook.

The School provides professional training and research practice, which helps to develop advanced scientific and research skills of the students. After course completion, students are eligible to become a researcher, project assistant, project associate, junior research fellow, senior research fellow, scientific writer, subject matter expert, faculty members, scientists, and others.

Faculty and students of the School have been publishing their research findings in reputed international journals, books, and science magazines. The School has been pursuing innovative approaches and playing a vital role in linking the results of science and their usage in society and endeavouring to bridge the gap between physical and biological sciences.

The indigenously developed methodology has also gained further importance due to interdisciplinary approaches in various fields like nanotechnology, renewable energy, bio-inspired molecules, multifunctional supramolecules, and green engineering to a level of successful technology transfer to industries. These sciences are useful to design and develop new molecular entities and methods to apply in various fields, such as defence, electronics, communication, and space research. The School offers the choice-based credit systems (CBCS) learning.

Prof. Dinesh Kumar

Dear Students, Scholars, and Visitors,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) at the Central University of Gujaratโ€”a vibrant center of learning, research, and innovation in the field of chemical sciences.

At SCS, we believe that chemistry is the central science that connects and drives advancements in health, environment, materials, and industry. Our School is committed to providing a strong academic foundation, combined with hands-on laboratory training and research exposure, that prepares students to solve real-world problems and address global challenges.

Our curriculum is designed to balance theoretical knowledge with practical applications across all major branches of chemistryโ€”organic, inorganic, physical, and analyticalโ€”while also engaging with emerging areas such as green chemistry, nanoscience, drug discovery, and environmental sustainability.

The School is proud of its dedicated faculty who are actively involved in frontier research, funded projects, and national and international collaborations. We offer our students a dynamic environment to engage in scientific inquiry, present their work at conferences, participate in workshops, and undertake internships that enhance both skills and confidence.

As the Dean of SCS, I take immense pride in the academic rigor, research excellence, and sense of curiosity that define our community. I invite aspiring chemists and researchers to join us in our mission to explore the power of chemistry in building a sustainable and innovative future.

I look forward to welcoming you to the School of Chemical Sciences and supporting your journey of learning, growth, and scientific discovery.
