About the School

The School of Education (SE), Central University of Gujarat (CUG) is a leading academic unit committed to excellence in teacher education, educational research, and policy engagement. Functioning through the Department of Education (DE), it offers postgraduate (M.Ed.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes aligned with NCTE norms and NEP 2020.

The school focuses on developing professional competencies, critical thinking, and research skills. The two-year M.Ed. programme follows a CBCS framework, integrating core courses, specialization streams (elementary and secondary education), internships, dissertation work, and research competency components. It prepares graduates for roles as teacher educators, curriculum developers, administrators, and researchers.

At the doctoral level, the school emphasizes rigorous research training through courses in research methodology, publication ethics, advanced data analysis, and specialized areas such as ICT in education and educational management. The Ph.D. programme is designed to build research capacity and generate knowledge that contributes to educational policy, innovation, and societal development.

Overall, the School integrates teaching, research, and field engagement to foster innovation, academic excellence, and transformative educational practices.

Our Mission

  • To prepare prospective teacher educators with knowledge, skills and dispositions to contribute to a better society.
  • To facilitate and undertake research, development and training for the improvement of school education.
  • To prepare educational pathways so as to empower teachers and leaders who will assume positions as educators, school administrators, researchers and policy makers at various levels.
  • To contribute to societal and national needs by developing teachers who are equipped with 21st century skills and proficient with the integration of technology in the field of education.
  • To equip prospective teacher educators with integrity, inclusiveness and ethical values to sensitize them about emerging issues such as environment, gender equality, human rights etc. in order to make them responsible citizens.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Education at the Central University of Gujarat, where we are deeply committed to the preparation of reflective, ethical, and transformative educators and educationists for the 21st century.

Education plays a foundational role in building inclusive, empowered, and progressive societies. At our School, we strive to uphold this responsibility by offering innovative programs in teacher education, educational research, and leadership development. Our curriculum is aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on interdisciplinarity, experiential learning, equity, and critical thinking.

We offer rigorous academic training, supported by field engagement, research projects, and internships. Our faculty members bring a diverse blend of academic scholarship and field experience, fostering an intellectually stimulating environment where students learn not only to teach but to lead and inspire.
